European Space Agency Hosts IET Visit at 5G/6G Hub during 6G & Future Networks Conference
The European Space Agency (ESA) recently welcomed members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to its 5G/6G Hub at the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT) in Harwell, UK. The visit was part of the IET’s 6G and Future Networks conference, highlighting the collaborative and innovative environment fostered at the Hub.

UniVirtua Collaborates with ESA on Advanced Networking Project
UniVirtua, currently engaged by ESA, is spearheading a project that integrates satellite and 5G data bearers into its dashAlpha platform. This initiative leverages the capabilities of the Satellite/5G Hub at Harwell Campus, showcasing the transformative potential of combined telecommunications technologies.
During the visit, UniVirtua presented its pioneering work on applying machine learning to enhance its ‘dashAlpha’ platform. The project aims to evolve dashAlpha into a secure, resilient, and intelligent networking solution capable of delivering voice, video, and data services across diverse and challenging network conditions. This advancement promises significant benefits for sectors including emergency services, disaster relief, rail transport, maritime, and automotive.
Ruggedised dashAlpha Unit Garners Attention
In addition to the presentation, UniVirtua showcased its ruggedised dashAlpha unit (pictured), which received considerable interest from industry experts and academic researchers.
